Your brain runs on nose breathing.

In 2016, a Northwestern University team watched the brain in real time and found its activity locks onto your breathing, spiking on every inhale, but only through the nose. In the same trial, people spotted fear faster and remembered more while nose-breathing; switching to the mouth wiped the effect out.

Sharper memory + faster reactions, but only through the nose.
